Day 10-Bayfield, WI: 35 Years Later and a Few More Grey Hairs
September 28th, 2025
We got an early start for the five-hour ride to Bayfield, WI—a place we last visited 35 years ago on an epic RV adventure with a six-month-old Alexa in tow. Back then, we ferried out to the Apostle Islands and Madeline Island with our friends Dina and Ed (met in Lamaze class in Woodland Hills, CA). Ask Jessica sometime about Midnight Generators and Big T reenacting Red Adair capping oil wells at the campground… now that’s a campfire story!
Just 15 minutes out of Manistique, we made a quick stop at the famous freshwater springs of Kitch-iti-kipi. The crystal-clear water pours out at 10,000 gallons an hour, a chilly 45 degrees, wrapped in Native lore. Tourist-y? Sure. Worth a peek? Definitely.
From there, we cruised along the beautiful Lake Michigan coast before heading toward the great state of Wisconsin and the vast blue expanse of Lake Superior. Around lunchtime, we stumbled into a small-town gem—Crossroads Tavern—where we devoured the best turkey clubs and iced teas while the Lions trounced the Browns. (I was pulling for Joe Flacco, but no dice.)
Rolling into Bayfield at last, we fueled up on diesel and then settled into our campground overlooking Lake Superior. Dinner was simple and perfect—juicy burgers on the grill with leftover salad. As the night closed in, we curled up with our favorite YouTubers, Epic Family Road Trip. Pete and Carol’s adventures always inspire us, though Big T didn’t last long before the snoring began.
Lights out on another good day on the road!
