Day 7+8-Deerly Beloved (and Beerly Enjoyed)

September 25th, 2025

Mackinac Point Lighthouse - Mackinac City, MI.

After a wonderful Mexican dinner near Traverse City and a restful night, we continued north toward Wilderness State Park, perched on the northwest tip of Michigan. Our campsite sat right on the shores of Lake Michigan, with pristine beaches and water as clear as glass.

On our way in, we spotted a rare albino deer—definitely a highlight! From here, we’re just 20 minutes west of Mackinaw City, the gateway to the world-famous Mackinac Island. The area is full of local gems: the best homemade pasties (traditional English miners’ lunch pies stuffed with chicken or beef), Biere de Mac Brew Works, Weinerlicious, and of course, the spectacularly long Mackinac Bridge connecting Lake Michigan and Lake Huron.

We liked the campground and the surrounding area so much that we decided to stay two nights, giving ourselves time to relax, explore, and of course, enjoy some great Michigan beer 🍺😎.
